Another very early start, leaving Rajasthan for Gujarat, The eight hour drive was very long and hot only stopping for chai once, the driver wanted to push on as he was a little unsure of our destination and he had to drive back that same evening after a brief rest.
After much asking of directions, we came within 50kms of the small village of Dasada, eventually arriving at our new home for the next five nights. Rann Riders, a safari lodge situated in the middle of the beautiful pastoral region of the Little Rann of Kutch. After a warm welcome from Rizwan there before us, was the resident tame peacock stretched out on the communal sofas, looking like he owned the place!
Rann Riders is an eco-friendly resort imaginatively designed using local materials; we are staying in a cottage resembling a kooba house of the Bajania community of Dasada. It has mud walls with thatch roof, decorated on the outside with leaf impressions and fabulous decorative Kutch mirror work on the inside walls and Kutch embroideries’. It is very comfortable and welcoming, I feel I have died and gone to heaven and already feel I do not want to leave. The only sounds are the resident fowls, bird song and horses gently nickering in the yard.
We have been promised we shall be busy with as many safaris as we wish and also riding their horses, the endangered breed known as Khatiyawadi, Things looks very good for the next five days…..
