Day 151 …… Abandoned watchtower & deckchairs, Puglia, Italy

A common theme that seems to be occurring here in our stay in Southern Italy is abandonment. Never before have I seen so many abandoned construction projects, business and private, the place is littered with them due predominately to the fall in their economy in the last three years.

Today we visited the little marina/lido of Torre Pali and never was it more evident with the usual many blocks of holiday apartments in varying states of abandonment.  Or more poignant than the half a dozen deck chairs in various states of dereliction with a backdrop of the ancient watchtower that the sea has now reclaimed. It was a strange place to sunbathe for an hour.  Later, the sand dunes of Torre Vado in the evening sun reminded me of home.
