The walk today CU2 …. was not as good as we expected due to the fact that most of the walk on tarmac albeit very quiet minor single track roads. So, a lot of hard hoof work. But, early on in the walk, once we crossed the main railway line to Lyon (twice in all) ….. the highlight of the day was Chateau Dree which we only got tantalising views of due to it being closed for the season. We did however get a look see into the Le Colombier, an octagonal building which had two purposes, one to house and breed pigeons and two to demonstrate the power of the Lord. Each hole (boulin) represents 500 sq. metres, here were 805 which equates to 400 hectares. Come April 1st we shall be queuing up outside the door!
The surrounding countryside was rather bare of animal life due to the fact that the Charolais cattle which normally frequent the rolling countryside were tucked up in their winter barns. So we had the place to ourselves ……literally!
……….pique-nique spot very nice at Etang de la Bazelle
