Ancient Burgundy #3 – Viaduct de Mussy sous Dun

Built between 1892 and 1895 the main monument of Mussy-sous-Dun is the railway bridge on the line connecting Lozanne to PAray leMonial. It consists of 18 semicircular arches each 25 meters in diameter. This work of art reflects the industrial and commercial expansion of the late nineteenth century and is now listed on the inventory of historical monuments and is very impressive to stand beneath these 60m high arches. It feels like the fear of heights in reverse! I read that the overall cost was 3 million gold francs I wonder what that would be in Euros today?

    1. Thank you Karen, I thought the strong shapes needed a dramatic texture tone – it always amazes me how our creativity evolves with what is put before us!
