Jithou – Auto Rickshaw Driver at Home

This is Jithou, (pronounced G2) who we have been very lucky to have for the past 4 weeks as our auto rickshaw driver. We found him on Trip Advisor well recommended and so he was. Our last evening in Fort Kochi, he took us to a very special annual Hindu Festival of 150,000 burning oil lights and then afterwards invited us to meet his wife and daughter for chai and something to eat. He is showing off with his new camera which a very kind guest sent to him all the way from Germany. Daughter looking on.

Mrs Jithou, saying goodbye and goodnight in the doorway of their ancient and humble abode with their cat which in their Malayalam language is called ‘poocha’ whic means cat. Whats his name I asked ‘cat’ was the reply.

The very small rooms they live in are in the top floor of this 400 year old building. So, very basic with no inside w.c. life is hard for an auto rick shaw driver, running costs are high and living costs in India are forever rising.

Daughter saying farewell with ‘poocha’ from the balcony. We shall miss you our friend Jithou :-(…

If you need a trustworthy honest patient knowledgable driver who has been an auto rickshaw driver for 25 years, Jithou’s your man, his Mobile Number is: 0 9895155042

(These images pushed my Canon 6d to the extremes in ISO the available light was practically zero – they range from 4,000 iso and the very last image at 12,800 iso on largest aperture of f/4!)
